Crooked Fence Gifts Closing Nov. 30

Owner Vicky Watkins cites the slow economy for the decision to close the physical store but will continue to focus sales and consignment efforts online.

Just about two years ago when Enumclaw Patch was still in ramp-up phase prior to launching, writer Steve Powell had done a story about the state of the local economy then in 2010 and one of the first local business owners he'd interviewed was Vicky Watkins of Crooked Fence Gifts.

We followed Watkins when she was able to move her store off Griffin to Cole Street, and readers even chose the business as their favorite local gift shop in this year's Readers Choice poll. So we were sad to hear that she will be closing the store at the end of the month.

Watkins sent along the following message:

Crooked Fence Gifts is closing it's retail location November 30th, 2012. We were in Enumclaw for almost 3 years. We were hoping the economy would return to it's former state and it has not. At least not yet. For now we will focus on our online stores, consignment and wholesale. Mountain Aire Mercantile has been nice enough to ask us to consign some of our merchandise with them. So, we will still have a presence in Enumclaw.

On a personal note I will be working at Collectibles on Cole a few days a week as well. Marilyn Nelson and I started the "Enumclaw Downtown Merchant & Friends Group" together and I will continue to help however I can. Follow the group on Facebook: www.facebook.com/EnumclawDowntownmerchantsfriends

Thank you to all of the customers that have supported our business and the 25 local artisans we had here. Thank you to all the fellow merchants for sharing their ideas and also for the friendships that I have made. I appreciate each and everyone of you !

See you around town and don't forget to SHOP LOCAL!

Watkins will maintain Crooked Fence's website at www.crookedfencegifts.com and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Crookedfencegifts. She can also be found on Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/crookedfencegifts.
