Help Collect Donations for Local Food Banks on Aug. 4

This Saturday, August 4 marks WonGeneration's 3rd Annual Canned Food Drive in Enumclaw to replenish both the Food Bank and the Food Bank.

All day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. volunteers will be stationed outside of , and to collect your food donations.

But the effort is two-fold, said organizer Sheri Bundy. Volunteers are also needed to go door-to-door in the community to collect donations.

It's a baby steps way for those interested to give their time back to the community, she said. This doesn't require pre-planning and is easy, particularly as many people are happy to give to the effort -- especially those who have benefitted from the local food banks in the past, Bundy said.

WonGeneration is looking to put together groups of five or more for two-hour shifts. No one will complain if you'd like to work more.

To futher motivate the volunteers in their groups, organizers are making a friendly contest out of the effort and throwing in prizes including gift cards to Starbucks as well as meals out to area restaurants.

If you're interested in helping or have a group, simply arrive outside Grocery Outlet at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday to receive your assignments.

For more information, contact Sheri Bundy at 206-579-1716.

And for those interested in giving, the POM July newsletter indicated they were looking for protein: peanut butter and canned meat! Given that it's the summer season, donations of fresh produce would probably also be appreciated.

Hi, Susan and Lou. We do know that our events calendar has issues at the moment with incorrect timesRead More displaying, and our engineering team is at work to correct this. My best suggestion at the moment is to post a comment on an event with the correct time, if you aren't able to go in and edit an event that you previously posted. Our ownership has not changed -- we have been and continue to be a part of the AOL family. Our intent with the new design is to highlight the great content that our users create and share with the community. We know there have been some bumps with our launch and are working diligently to fix them. We hope you'll be patient with us and continue to share on Patch.
