5th Annual Plateau Community Health Summit to Focus on Mental Health

U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert, along with representatives from St. Elizabeth Hospital, local law enforcement, and youth and family services will be a part of this community event.

The Enumclaw Regional Healthcare Foundation (ERHF) invites you to attend the 5th Annual Community Health Summit on April 30, 2013 at the Summit Church in Enumclaw from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The event brings together business owners, community leaders, and local residents to focus on the issue of mental health across the Plateau. Congressman Dave Reichert is also a featured guest speaker. This is not a conference – it is an opportunity to come together to understand the local mental health issues and community challenges. Residents are invited to come be a part of the action plan to produce a change in the community to educate, create awareness and expand access of effective mental health services to make a difference in the lives of those affected by mental illness.

Process and barrier presentations will provide an illustration of current mental health steps in place around our communities. Presentations will include speakers from St. Elizabeth Hospital, law enforcement, and youth and family services. Gain information about local issues and learn what will happen in our community to educate and prompt a wider awareness.

Through community input and roundtable discussions, it has been evident that there are some key areas that need immediate focus around mental health. In an effort to move in a positive direction, the task of educating, reducing negative stigmas, and collaborating resources by engaging existing Plateau services to streamline a process is top priority for task force members.

Since 2007, Plateau Health Summits results have identified many health needs and significant problems that exist on the plateau. The assessments from the Summits were astonishing and resulted in creating the Rainier Foothills Community Network Coalition with five current task forces. Task force work is focused around the areas of youth substance abuse, violence prevention, mental health, hunger, and access to healthcare.
