Parishioners gathered at 12 noon on Wednesday at in Enumclaw to mark the start of Lent at the church's Ash Wednesday service.

Lent, lasting 40 days until Easter, is traditionally a time of sacrafice for Catholics as they prepare for the resurrection of Jesus Christ which is celebrated on Easter Sunday.

This year, Easter is on April 24.
