'Best Mom of Enumclaw' Nominated by Adopted Son is Supporter of 4-H

Chris Sechrist says this about his mom in Enumclaw Patch's 'Best Mom of Enumclaw' contest: "She has given us a new life that I would never had had if we had been left in the bad situation that I was in."

Our contest this week asking you to share your photos of your mom and tell us why she should be named 'Best Mom of Enumclaw' drew several wonderful entries reflecting how much our entrants truly love and appreciate all that their mothers do for them.

And it made it pretty impossible to come to a decision on the best entry based on either the photos submitted or the descriptions given because who can really pick one person out as being a 'better' mom than the others?

That's why we turned to the random drawing approach and utilized the site www.random.org to help us pick a winner. And that winner is Chris Sechrist who said of his mom, Pat, who adopted him along with his two sisters 17 years ago: "She has given us a new life that I would never have had if we had been left in the bad situation that I was in."

Chris shared a lovely photo of himself as a child along with his mother and told us she opted to homeschool her children and stays active in her community through King County 4-H. "Because of my mom, I have been involved in the 4-H community for over 12 years."

Do you want to see why it was so hard to pick a winner any other way? View excerpts from our other entries below.

  • Laura Lipscomb shared a charming photo of herself and mom, circa 1988, posing with C3PO and R2D2 at a county fair. "People tell me 'you look like your mother' or 'you sound just like your mother!' ... well, thanks! Of all the people I could be, my mom is a pretty great option."
  • And Pearl Robertson said of her mom: "There is no way to truly convey the gratitude I have for all the opportunities my mom made available to me. The only thing that is certain is that I would not be where I am or who I am today, without my mom."

Chris and his family pick up a $25 gift certificate for in Enumclaw, which was as the best place to take mom for a Mother's Day brunch. We'd like to give an additional shout-out to owner Dennis DeAugustine who generously provided the prize for this contest.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this contest in celebration of the mothers in this community. And enjoy what promises to be a sunny and even warm Mother's Day weekend!
