Update: Donate to EYFS and ERHF on May 2 GiveBIG Online Event for Added Match from Seattle Foundation

This is the second event organized by the Seattle Foundation leveraging the power of social media to benefit King County nonprofit organizations.

For 24 hours this Wednesday, May 2, you can make a donation to or the Enumclaw Regional Healthcare Foundation and a portion of your donation will be matched by the Seattle Foundation.

Editor's Note: The first version of this item omitted the fact that the Enumclaw Regional Healthcare Foundation is also participating in the GiveBIG event. We've added the Seattle Foundation's link to their page as well. Said an ERHF member: "A donation as little as $5 can support the Care Van, Books for Babies program, the Dental Van or any number of the task forces working hard to build a healthy community in the Enumclaw, Buckley, Black Diamond and Bonney Lake area."

This is the second year that the Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG online campaign has aimed to help King County nonprofit organizations raise funds and gain publicity, according to a foundation press release (Read it here).

The idea's a simple one: make a donation to an organization that you support through the Seattle Foundation's dedicated web interface.

A share of your contribution is then matched with a 'stretch pool' of funds provided by the Foundation, local companies and individuals. According to The Seattle Times (read it here), if an organization earns 3 percent of total donated funds, it would receive 3 percent of the matching money in the stretch pool.

In 2011, the event raised a total of $3.6 million from 19,000 individual donations ranging from $5 to $60,000 that leveraged a $500,000 stretch pool. The GiveBIG effort was named 'Best Use of Social Media' for 2011 by Seattle Mazagine.

New this year is the chance to make a donation through your smart phone through The Seattle Foundation's mobile website.

GiveBIG this year takes place Wednesday, May 2 frond 12:01 a.m. until midnight. Credit card donations made during this time will be counted as GiveBIG donations and used to calculate distribution of the stretch pool.

GiveBIG is presented by The Seattle Foundation and Lead Sponsors Bezos Family Foundation, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Seattle International Foundation and Seattle Sounders FC.

Hi, Susan and Lou. We do know that our events calendar has issues at the moment with incorrect timesRead More displaying, and our engineering team is at work to correct this. My best suggestion at the moment is to post a comment on an event with the correct time, if you aren't able to go in and edit an event that you previously posted. Our ownership has not changed -- we have been and continue to be a part of the AOL family. Our intent with the new design is to highlight the great content that our users create and share with the community. We know there have been some bumps with our launch and are working diligently to fix them. We hope you'll be patient with us and continue to share on Patch.

Always looking for a local nature trail, I really enjoy reading Mary Janosik's well written blog. InRead More fact, almost all the dedicated bloggers posting on the Enumclaw PATCH have something worthwhile reading. But it is not an easy job for most of us, taking some time to research and write, without any compensation. Our only reward is knowing we are being read and appreciated and the only way we know that is when you comment. In my opinion, most of the PATCH blogs are a community service, informing residents about our community and issues concerning you, our readers. So please send your favorite bloggers a thank you or a comment once in awhile to keep us motivated and feel appreciated..
