Franciscan Foundation Awards Scholarships to 27 Franciscan Employees

Tacoma, WA – The Franciscan Foundation recently awarded scholarships to 27 Franciscan Health System and Franciscan Medical Group employees who are pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees or certificates in healthcare and other career-related subjects. The scholarships totaled $69,000. 

“It is through the generosity of our donors that we are able to make these scholarships possible," said Greg Unruh, president of the Franciscan Foundation. “We are delighted that this program enables our dedicated employees to continually improve their professional skills, which in turn benefits our patients.”

Since 1996, the Foundation has approved more than 381 scholarships totaling $624,350 to Franciscan employees. All the scholarships are funded through charitable gifts to the Foundation from Franciscan employees, grateful Franciscan patients and their families, and other friends of the Franciscan Health System.

These scholarships are given to employees who meet specific criteria and are pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees primarily in nursing and other healthcare related professions. Providing educational assistance is one of many ways that the Franciscan Health System recruits and retains employees.

The Franciscan Foundation is the charitable giving arm of the Franciscan Health System, a not-for-profit organization that includes St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw, St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care in University Place, and Franciscan Medial Group in Tacoma. The Franciscan Medical Pavilion opened in Bonney Lake in June.
