Get Out: Muppets on Water, Winnie the Pooh, Chalet Concert and Charity Basketball this Weekend

Check our picks for what to do this weekend.

When it comes to things to do in Enumclaw on a given weekend, and depending on the time of year, it can be feast or it can be famine. Well, this weekend is definitely a feast. Here's just a sampling of what's happening right here in city limits:

  • Where/When: on Friday, May 18 at 7:15 p.m.
  • Why Go: Who needs to sit in a sticky theater chair to enjoy a flick on the big screen? The Aquatic Center's float-in movie night gives participants the chance to seriously lay back -- or rather, float -- and enjoy a Friday night flick. This week it's The Muppet Movie. Floating mats and noodles are available or you can bring your own float. Doors open at 7 p.m.
  • Pricing: $5.50 for city residents/ $6.50 for non-city residents

  • Where/When: Mud Mountain Recreation Area on Saturday, May 19 at 9 a.m.
  • Why Go: Sometimes it's just fun to go tearing through the woods and get a little wet and muddy. And get some great exercise along with the chance to blow off a little steam. Plus this year you can run in teams! Proceeds from the trail run go toward sending youth to a running camp in the summer. ()
  • Pricing: $30 to register; additional $5 for a tech shirt and less $5 if under age 18. Visit www.plateaurc.com for more information or call Kevin Myers at 253-397-6251.

  • Where/When: Parking lot at Cole Street and Initial Avenue on Saturday, May 19 at 9 a.m.
  • Why Go: Mayor Liz Reynolds said during Monday's City Council meeting that in past years, the line went around the block of people determined to load up on plants for their homes and gifts for others. Enumclaw Garden Club members have been busy all year potting plants and making creative yard art items. Come have a look and visit with your neighbors while you're at it!
  • Pricing: Free (excluding purchases)

  • Where/When: on Saturday, May 19 at 1 p.m.
  • Why Go: Who needs Antiques Roadshow when you can get your items appraised right here in town? Whether it's something that's been sitting in your family home for generations or an item you picked up at an estate or even garage sale that you suspect might be more that meets the eye, bring it down to the historical museum and get an expert opinion on it.
  • Pricing: $5 per item with a lmit of 3

  • Where/When: Enumclaw High School, Saturday, May 19 with showtimes at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: See this last production of the high school's drama students this academic year as they tell the story of Eeyore getting a house, Tigger learning patience and Christopher Robin getting 'education.' "The House at Pooh Corner" is based on the book by A.A. Milne -- not so much the Disney interpretation, according to drama teacher Darrell Miller.. Still, a delight for all ages!
  • Pricing: $5

  • Where/When: and Downtown, Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20
  • Why Go: We admit we're partial to the adorable Kid's Race happening Saturday at 5 p.m. during the Criterium. But if you're a fan of cycling, what better way to enjoy the sport than to set up your foldable chair along the route and cheer on the athletes in what's billed as Western Washington's Biggest, Most Competitive Cycling Event! ()
  • Pricing: Free to watch; registration ended Thursday, May 17

  • Where/When: Chalet Theatre on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 both at 2:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Cascade Foothills Chorale presents this concert of popular music heard on the radio from the 1920s through the 1960s. It's music everyone knows and enjoys by well-known musicians like Glenn Miller and The Beatles. Plus 10 percent of proceeds go toward helping C.A.S.T. renovate the Chalet. ()
  • Pricing: $10

  • Where/When: Enumclaw High School Saturday, May 19 at 7 p.m.
  • Why Go: It's police officers versus firefighters in this yearly matchup with proceeds going to support The LawDawgs Relay for Life team in Enumclaw. Buckley's own Heavy Hammer is the halftime show plus there will be a half-time free-throw contest as well as a raffle for excellent prizes including 100-level Mariners tickets and a getaway to Ocean Shores. Always looking for a local nature trail, I really enjoy reading Mary Janosik's well written blog. InRead More fact, almost all the dedicated bloggers posting on the Enumclaw PATCH have something worthwhile reading. But it is not an easy job for most of us, taking some time to research and write, without any compensation. Our only reward is knowing we are being read and appreciated and the only way we know that is when you comment. In my opinion, most of the PATCH blogs are a community service, informing residents about our community and issues concerning you, our readers. So please send your favorite bloggers a thank you or a comment once in awhile to keep us motivated and feel appreciated..
