Get Out Weekend Planner: June 17 to June 19

The weekend is just around the corner and it's time to unwind.  Check out this week's picks for making the most of your time away from the weekday grind.

60th Washington State Square & Folk Dance Festival

Where/When: , Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 all day

Why Go? It's square dancing!  Regardless of whether or not you dance, getting the chance to see a bit of Americana right here in town is too good to pass up.

Price: Free to watch or check out the Intro to Contra and Contra Dancing in the Exhibit Hall on Friday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Otherwise, registration to participate is $35 for adults and $25 for youth under 18. A family package is also available for $95.

Editor's Note: The Trails in Dance event takes place tonight at the Fieldhouse beginning at 7 p.m. with pre-rounds and going through to 11 p.m. Tickets are $4 for teens up to age 19 and $6 for adults. (More information)

Maple Valley Farmers' Market

Where/When: Rocky Creek Elementary School; Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go? The Maple Valley Farmers' Market is a great local market offering bakery items, fruits and veggies from around the state, and other hand crafted market items.

Price: Free admission

Editor's Note: Don't forget that '' is also setting up shop this weekend in the parking lot adjacent to the Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce. 

 

Meeker Days Festival

Where/When: Various venues around downtown Puyallup; Friday, June 17 from 12 p.m to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go? Meeker Days is the largest festival in Pierce County featuring music, food,  vendor tables, and a great classic car show.

Price: Free  

Emerald Downs

Where/When: Emerald Downs in Auburn, Gates open at 2 p.m. both Saturdays and Sundays

Why Go?  Wager a few bucks and enjoy a drink while spending the day at the track.

Price: Varies.  However Gerneral Admission to the first five levels of seating is $7.

 

Fremont Fair

Where/When: The Fremont neighborhood, Seattle; Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 19 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go?  If you've never been to the Fremont Fair it's a must-do event at least once in your lifetime.  The eclectic street fair offers visitors an endless range of arts, crafts, foods and drink.  However, the highlight of the Fair is the Solstice Parade which happens Saturday at noon along Fremont Avenue.  Get there early and bring your sense of humor!

Price: Free
