Grab and Go Kids Planner: Buckley Log Show, Summer Reading

Summer has officially begun! Check out these events to kick off the first weekend.

 Gym and Swim – Enumclaw Aquatics Center

WHEN? From 12:30–4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays  and Fridays

WHY GO? Take advantage of this drop-and-go program for kids ages 4 to 12. Kids can splash and play with a swim  counselor while parents run errands or get a few things done around the  house. The program includes a snack and outdoor playtime before getting  into the water at 2:30 p.m.

COST? $25 per day or $6 per hour

Buckley Log Show and Street Fair – Main Street Buckley

WHEN? Saturday, June 25, starting at noon, and Sunday, June 26, starting at 11 a.m.

WHY GO? This 38th annual event packs the town. Watch loggers, woodworkers and clowns compete in 19 events, including ax throwing, tree topping, log rolling and speed climbing. Get there early  for parking and a good seat for the parade, starting at 10am.

COST? Free

One  World, Many Stories – Enumclaw Public Library

WHEN? Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m.

WHY GO? Enumclaw has a summer jam-packed with activities for families and kids  of all ages. Check out their summer schedule or call the library at  360-825-2938 for more information about registering for their events.

COST? Free

– Allan Yorke Park, Bonney Lake

WHEN? Saturday, June 25, starting at 10 a.m.

WHY GO? This multi-event day focuses around our  four-legged friends. This annual event showcases dog of all breeds and  sizes and includes Doggie Olympics, judging events for best costume, best owner look-alike, and more! There is also a Relay for Life fun run.

COST? Free to attend. Entry fees for Olympics and Fun Run.

Rock Around the World Mystery - Pierce County Library, Sumner

WHEN? Tuesday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m.

WHY GO? As part of Pierce County Library’s Summer  Reading program, this all-ages event is a great activity for the older  kids, ages 9 to 12. With help from Eric Ode and Benjamin Dog, this  musical mystery needs your help. You’ll be part of solving the case!

COST? Free, although tickets are required.

TOUR DE PIERCE BICYCLE RIDE, Puyallup Fairgrounds

WHEN? Sunday, June 26, 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

WHY GO? The Tour de Pierce is a summer bicycle ride through central Pierce County for fitness, fun, promoting bicycle awareness and safety. The ride begins in the Gold Parking lot of the Puyallup Fairgrounds and winds through Puyallup, Sumner and adjacent farm lands. A rest stop at McAlder Elementary School, south of Sumner  will offer light refreshments, entertainment and restrooms.

COST? $17 or $51 for a family of four

GOLD FOR LIFE, Sumner Meadows Golf Links

WHEN? Friday, June 24, 11 a.m.

WHY GO? Do your part to hit a hole-in-one in the  fight against cancer at the third annual tournament for Relay for Life. Then, stick around for dinner and the awards ceremony.

COST? $80 per golfer (includes dinner) or $20 for dinner only.

LIVE MUSIC, D&W Wine Cellars, Bonney Lake

WHEN? Friday, June 24, 7-9:30 p.m.

WHY GO? Local musician Phil Hanson will be finger-picking his acoustic guitar. Not sure what to expect? Check out YouTube.
