Grab And Go: Reading With a Dog, Babysitting Class

From bikes to books and babysitting to Being Ernest, what will you do this week?

AFTER-SCHOOL BOOK BUNCH, BLACK DIAMOND LIBRARY

WHEN? May 19, 3:45 p.m.

WHY GO? A book club for the elementary set, kids age 8-12. Come for pizza and games and to talk about books! This month’s book pick is My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Stiles.

READING WITH A DOG, PUYALLUP LIBRARY

WHEN? Thursday and Friday, May 19 and 20, 3:30 p.m.

WHY GO? Kids can meet one of a variety of dog breeds (depending on day and availability) and get a chance to read aloud with him. Whether it’s Scarlett, the French Mastiff, or mixed mutt Dan, these attentive listeners offers a happy and no-pressure audience for kids working on their reading skills.

SUPER SITTERS BABYSITTING CLASS

WHEN? Saturday, May 21, 9 a.m.

WHY GO? For kids aged 11-16, this is the perfect introductory class to the basics of babysitting.  Learn first aid, safety precautions, accident prevention as well as popular kid games, activities and more.  Students will earn a Red Cross Babysitter Certification Card.

HOW MUCH? $65 with required registration through Sumner Parks & Recreation

MUTUAL OF ENUMCLAW STAGE RACE, ENUMCLAW

WHEN? May 21 & 22

WHY GO? If you’re not participating in this bike race, cheer on your friends and family for the 16th annual event.  Bike racers of all ages are welcome to participate.  Age divisions separate the juniors (age 10-14) from the adults and a kid’s race takes place on Saturday afternoon.  Time trials on May 21 with road race on May 22.

HOW MUCH? $80 USA cycling license required to race.  Free to attend.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, SUMNER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

WHEN? Production runs May 21-29,showtimes vary

WHY GO? ManeStage Theatre Company, Sumner’s go-to for family theater, is offering their first non-musical production of the 2010-2011 season.  Come enjoy the comedy of Oscar Wilde as ManeStage brings it local.

HOW MUCH? Tickets start at $10 for children, $16 for adults.
