The following is a letter from community development director Erika Shook for those who are interested in participating in the Enumclaw Community Garden this year.
Re: Enumclaw Community Garden 2012
Dear Gardeners:
It is almost spring and many of you have contacted us about plots in the pea-patch. This year there will be a fee of $20 per plot to cover the cost of water and gardeners will be asked to volunteer at one or more work parties to clean-up and maintain the pea patch during the growing season.
This year we have made plans to tidy up the center path and perimeter of the garden. City staff will clear the grass and weeds from the perimeter and interior path so that those areas can be covered with wood chip mulch. This will keep the edges from becoming overgrown, increase accessibility and make it easier for city staff to mow around the garden. City staff will endeavor to avoid disturbing the soil of the plots, but there may be encroachment into the plots during this work. Since there is a need for a windbreak along the east side of the garden, we will be looking for volunteers and donations to construct an attractive low fence to serve as a windbreak.
Applications for plots will be accepted from March 5 through March 31 on a first-come first-serve basis. Contact our office for an application. Two plots will not be assigned to any one person unless unassigned plots remain after March 31. There will be a mandatory work party on Saturday March 31, 2012 from 9 am to Noon to spread wood chip mulch on the cleared pathway and perimeter of the garden. Plot assignments will be made following the March 31, 2012 work party.
