Plateau Historical Society Museum Closes for Six Weeks to Prepare for New Collection

The pioneer collection of historical documents, memorabilia and more currently housed in the Enumclaw Library will move to the museum which is slated to reopen the weekend of May 18 and May 19.

If you've attempted to visit the Enumclaw Plateau Historical Society Museum recently and found it closed during advertised open times, never fear: it is not closed permanently.

The Courier-Herald reports this week that the museum is preparing to house the pioneer collection of historical documents, artifacts and memorabilia currently on display in the Enumclaw Library. As the museum is relying on volunteers to make the move, it closed to visitors on March 29 with the anticipated reopen day of May 18.

As The Courier-Herald also reported, this historical collection was an important talking point during last year's city annexation vote to move under the King County Library System. At the time, some including then recently retired library director Bob Baer worried that the lack of detail with regard to how the historical collection would be 'retained' or 'maintained' by KCLS might mean local citizens would no longer have usable access to the material.
