When it comes to this year’s Puyallup Fair Sept. 7-23, organizers want you to ZIP IT.
They don’t want you to be quiet; that’s the opposite of what the fair is all about. But they do want you to try their new zipline, called ZIP IT.
A staircase accessible tower rises 28 feet off the ground; riders zip across a 130-foot cable toward an inflatable wall, stopping just inches away from impact. Cost is $10.
Cancer walk
Another new event this year is the Walk to Beat Breast Cancer Sept. 22, starting at 8 a.m. Participants raise money to benefit Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
Fair gate admission is included in registration, which is available at www.DoThePuyallupWalk.org.
Money raised from the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) walk helps raise funds for breast cancer research, education, prevention, treatment and patient care.
The route starts at the fair, exits to make a loop around Sparks Stadium, then returns to tour around the fair.
Advance registration until Sept. 20 is $35 for adults and $18 for children (6-18), and includes a t-shirt. Registration the day of the walk is $5 more.
Military Mondays
The fair celebrates the U.S. Armed Forces by hosting Military Mondays Sept. 10 and 17. Free gate admission is offered to all active, reserve, and retired military and National Guard and their dependents, plus disabled veterans, when each shows military identification.
Iglesias seats
More seats have been added for the Enrique Iglesias concert Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $50 to $200. Iglesias is the biggest Latin recording artist in music history, having sold more than 70 million albums. Tickets are available at the Puyallup Fair web site, www.thefair.com/concerts.
Garden show
How does your garden grow? If it grows well, consider entering your creations in the fair’s floral shows. Prior to entering your bonsai, roses, geraniums, fuchsias and more, you must register online by Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 10 p.m. To register, visit www.thefair.com, and select exhibit entries.
Healthy food
The fair isn’t just about eating food that’s bad for you. Gardeners also can enter fruits and vegetables that they grow. The fair is accepting fruit, vegetable, pumpkin and vegetable critter submissions online until Monday, Sept. 3, at 10 p.m. A cash prize will be awarded to first- and second-place winners.
