VFW 1949 Goes Mobile

The Enumclaw post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has launched its new mobile website, accessible via QR code on your smart phone.

We recently received an email from some out-of-town folks asking about Memorial Day services this year in Enumclaw; they drove up from Oregon last year only to miss the service at Enumclaw Memorial Cemetery by a day.

Thanks to the VFW's Elbert Reed, we were able to help them out. In the future, though, assuming they've got a smart phone, that will no longer be a problem now that the has its new mobile website up and ready for use.

Any user can simply scan the QR code (we have a copy with this story) with your mobile device and you'll be taken to the VFW Post 1949 mobile website.

From there, you can get directions to the VFW Hall or get connected by phone with one touch. In terms of content, it appears the website mostly mirrors the organization's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/VFW1949) and includes photos and updates that are posted there. Which is handy if you're nowhere near a computer but need some quick information off your device.

It also looks like there will soon be a VFW Post 1949 Twitter feed too!

Speaking of quick information -- here are the details for Memorial Day activities this weekend, again, courtesy of Mr. Reed:

  • On Friday, May 25, VFW members along with Boy Scout Troop 422 and Cub Scout Pack 500 will be placing flags at Evergreen Cemetery.
  • On Sunday, May 27:
    • 10 a.m. Memorial service at Enumclaw Memorial Cemetery with VFW Post 1949. The public is invited.
    • 2 p.m. Memorial service at Enumclaw Veterans Memorial Park with VFW Post 1949, the Enumclaw Gateway Band and a choral group. The public is invted to this main Enumclaw service with a dedication of a new plaque on the Purple Heart Monument. Larry Kauffman, Col. USAF retired is the guest speaker.
  • On Monday, May 28: 11 a.m. Service at Tahoma National Cemetery, Veterans Service Organizations and Active Duty Military. This event is well-attended and it is recommended that you arrive by 10:30 a.m. to find parking that is not too long a walk to the service site.

Always looking for a local nature trail, I really enjoy reading Mary Janosik's well written blog. InRead More fact, almost all the dedicated bloggers posting on the Enumclaw PATCH have something worthwhile reading. But it is not an easy job for most of us, taking some time to research and write, without any compensation. Our only reward is knowing we are being read and appreciated and the only way we know that is when you comment. In my opinion, most of the PATCH blogs are a community service, informing residents about our community and issues concerning you, our readers. So please send your favorite bloggers a thank you or a comment once in awhile to keep us motivated and feel appreciated..
