What's Happening at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center This Summer

Aquatics Manager Brandi Burke delivers the lowdown on the latest improvements at the pool, upcoming lessons and events and more.

From lifeguard classes to basic swim lessons for kids and adults, special events to opportunities to celebrate a birthday or special occasion, the Enumclaw Aquatic Center is an important resource not only for fun and recreation but water survival.

"There are so many aquatic recreational activities for families to participate in in Washington, we really want to make sure all the kids in our community know water safety so they can make smart choices for themselves and friends and family," said Aquatics Manager Brandi Burke. "It’s our goal that all the kids on the Plateau know how to swim."

City staff has been making steady changes and improvements to the infrastructure of the pool, said Burke, including installing a new pool cover for energy efficiency, and replacing the chemical control system for the water last summer. "Our water quality has gone up significantly," she said, and swimmers notice too.

The pool's diving board has just been refurbished and staff are looking to have the starting blocks replaced by the end of the summer. The blocks are used in classes, by local high school swim teams as well as the Rainier Foothills swim team. Burke said have them replaced opens the possibility for the private swim club to hold some short-course meets at the Aquatic Center, helping to bring in some extra revenue for the city too.
