Artist’s Statement

I have titled this series of paintings “Windows on My World” as they represent places for the mind to go and reflect. The interior of a place provides a respite for the soul, like a well worn armchair or the head of a favorite dog who allows your hand to rest on it.

This morning I received a note from a woman who is almost eighty and will be returning to a place where she was born when we go to Mozambique this June.
In the spirit of revisiting a place remembered, I dedicate this showing to those who record the journeys of their spirit and have the courage to open the book for us to see.

My paintings give a glimpse of an emotional plane. The orange zebra mare flees from pursuit, heavy with foal but is exuberant in her escape; the gray mare with her newborn, is vigilant, but still, embracing the joy of a warm nuzzle. Thatched is filled with the danger of what lies within, while Reflections gives back the grasses of the bank and the coolness of shade. Tea at Timbuctoo is a portrait of a man in Mali, who invited us into his house of mud with its carpet of sand to share honey-mint tea, hospitality that needed no words.

Please feel free to email or call. The sale of these paintings will benefit VillageSteps, a local charity for the education of orphans and vulnerable girls in Africa. Enumclaw has benefited over 2000 students with an education who would otherwise have been forgotten. Suzanne Popp poppvillage@msn.com 360-825-5865.

I would like to invite you to tour my studio and see the pictures I have painted of other locales and local treasures, as well as my collection of watercolors and abstracts. Thank you for viewing my work, as I believe it takes an audience to really complete the painting experience. Please leave any comments, as they will be valued.
