Mary Ann Young Biography

I was raised in California, and graduated from Penn State University. I began my art career by studying oil painting in New Mexico in the late 1960s. I then branched out to acrylic at the Academa Della Bella Arte in Naples, Italy in the early 1970s. After moving to Montana in 1973, my artistic growth and development has come from attending workshops with well-known artists including, Harley Brown, Susan Ogilvie, Don Anderson, and Charles Reid among others. I have also taught art for several years at Paris Gibson Square in Great Falls, Montana. In the 1970s I again branched out artistically to include work in pottery, jewelry, stained glass, watercolor, pastel, ink, and charcoal mediums. My stained glass work is represented at numerous homes, offices, and even a church in Montana. Since moving to Washington State in 1999, I have simplified my artistic work to drawing and painting, in pastel, watercolor and oil.

When painting a mixed media piece, I like to first use watercolor or acrylic to create a mood and unify the painting, then paint in the main subject with pastel or oils.

My work has been accepted and won awards in the Pastel Society of the West Coast, Pastel Society of Oregon, and the Midwest Pastel Society. I have similarly been honored in many of Montana and Washington Juried shows including The Western Washington State Fair (The Puyallup Fair), Electrum in Helena, and Montana State Fair in Great Falls. In August 2011 I was awarded a Special Merit Award at the Mountain Valley Art Club show at Weyerhaeuser's "Art Among the Trees". My paintings hang in many private and corporate collections in the USA and Canada.

Gallery 2013 is located in the Council Chambers at Enumclaw City Hall. 1339 Griffin Ave. Enumclaw, WA 98022. Hours for the exhibition space are 9:30 a. m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hi, Susan and Lou. We do know that our events calendar has issues at the moment with incorrect timesRead More displaying, and our engineering team is at work to correct this. My best suggestion at the moment is to post a comment on an event with the correct time, if you aren't able to go in and edit an event that you previously posted. Our ownership has not changed -- we have been and continue to be a part of the AOL family. Our intent with the new design is to highlight the great content that our users create and share with the community. We know there have been some bumps with our launch and are working diligently to fix them. We hope you'll be patient with us and continue to share on Patch.

Always looking for a local nature trail, I really enjoy reading Mary Janosik's well written blog. InRead More fact, almost all the dedicated bloggers posting on the Enumclaw PATCH have something worthwhile reading. But it is not an easy job for most of us, taking some time to research and write, without any compensation. Our only reward is knowing we are being read and appreciated and the only way we know that is when you comment. In my opinion, most of the PATCH blogs are a community service, informing residents about our community and issues concerning you, our readers. So please send your favorite bloggers a thank you or a comment once in awhile to keep us motivated and feel appreciated..
