Bites Nearby: Bootleggers Bar and Grill

There are three reasons the Dining Diva explores a drinking establishment. These are what I like to call the three D's: Daily Specials, D.J.s and Drinks--and not necessarily in that order. Welcome to Bootleggers Bar and Grill in Buckley.

If you are driving fast, you might just miss Bootleggers Bar and Grill located off Highway 410 just as you enter the cool little town of Buckley.  However, all one has to do is be on the lookout for one big plastic horse, on top of a building…no seriously.

It’s a really big plastic horse.

Bootleggers has been recently renovated and looks like a lot of fun could be had there by many.  It offers a full bar, hi-definition TV’s and a full banquet room that can be used for private parties.  It also offers family style dining until 9 p.m. so if you are looking for a place to take the little ones while still being able to watch the big game and throw back a couple of beers, Bootleggers may just be the spot to go.

Yes, I did just talk about drinking in front of the children and while many may not agree to this practice, it does occur and of course a designated driver is always encouraged.

Bootleggers offers daily specials and homemade menu options such as Jack Daniels chili and fresh steaming corn bread, tender balsamic steak salad and fresh special-recipe clam chowder (on Fridays only).

For meat lovers out there, there is a wealth of hamburger and sandwich options that include favorites such as the Boot Buster (a full pound patty with three slices of American cheese, four strips of bacon, house barbecue sauce, fried onion and all the “fixins’”, the Mother Clucker (a six-ounce grilled chicken breast, two slices of bacon, cheddar cheese, barbecue sauce and all the “fixins’” and the BLATT (thick cut bacon, sliced turkey, avocado, lettuce and tomato on toasted sourdough bread).

Honorable mention goes to the 8 oz. New York steak, “seasoned and grilled to perfection” served with your choice of baked potato, rustic fries or Wild Saloon chips, soup or salad and a cornbread muffin. And did I forget to mention the daily specials. On Mondays, for instance, you can get an 8-ounce steak dinner for $8.99, with corn and either fries or salad. And it's a good steak.

Bootleggers welcomes call in orders as well, so if you are in a hurry and need to take something to go, just call and your food will be hot and ready when you arrive.

Last but not least is the entertainment that this bar and grill offers.  There are live D.J.’s Friday, Saturday and Sunday and an open mic on Fridays for the bravest of the brave.  Remember that designated driver comment earlier?  This usually comes in handy when alcohol and a microphone are involved, not that it has ever happened to me or anything (Diva Disclaimer).

So the next time you are in Buckley or just driving through, make sure to look out for the big horse and stop on in for a bite to eat and some tunes.
