Bites Nearby: Buckley Eagles

Liberty, truth, justice and equality is what the Fraternal Order of Eagles stands for in our community. Good food, friendly fun, family and entertainment are the added benefits everyone should know about.

The main thing the Fraternal Order of Eagles is known for is a philanthropic spirit and engrained moral fiber of people helping people. The philosophy and the institution of the Eagles has been around a lot longer than people may realize — since 1898! To me, that means just one thing: the Eagles are doing more than just one thing right.

Having been a member of the Eagles for more than 20 years now, and growing up as one might call an Eaglet, I know the ins and outs of the organization. My father, Jack Noland, was past president of the Auburn Eagles and a very well respected and well liked champion for the Eagles in the community. He got the family involved at an early age and instilled the qualities of the Aerie in each of us.

And then there were the picnics, the BBQs and the food. Ahhh, the food.

This tradition fortunately is still in place and going strong, especially at the Buckley Eagles located directly off Highway 410. Dinner specials are offered almost daily and a good home-cooked breakfast is available on Sunday mornings. Strawberry pancakes among friends —who could ask for more?

On Thursdays, the kitchen opens early for those who want a little lunch or snack. Dinner specials include such dishes as prime rib, London broil, top sirloin, chowder, and their ever-famous Taco Night (Mondays in July).

The latest gossip in the newsletter: Sunday dinners have arrived. Give me a yee-haww!

Meals average about $8 and the best thing is that this price is for both members and non-members. Yes, you heard it right here: non-members can dine affordably at the Eagles. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, guess what? Children are allowed in the club so the whole family can eat a great meal together.

The Buckley Eagles also offers live music on Sundays and Wednesdays. I hear that dancing is encouraged so bring on those dancin’ shoes and party clothes — who knows, you may meet your future Eagle to nest with for the rest of your life.

So the next time you are passing by the Eagles in Buckley, just remember that this club encourages and warmly welcomes visitors to join in their camaraderie, maybe a spirit or too, a hand of poker and some darn good home-cooking. Oh, and don’t forget to check out their membership information — it definitely has been worth it for me.
