Bites Nearby: Wally's Drive-In

If you are looking for something different, something fun with a little retro flair thrown in for flavor, then Wally's Drive-In may be the perfect spot for your next eating adventure.

Have you ever gone to a restaurant, look at the menu and then leave because there were too many choices that looked good?  Well, this is exactly what happened when I walked inside Wally’s Drive-In off of State Route 410 in Buckley.  It felt slightly rude but then again I could have ordered all five wish list items (not to go) and sat and ate like a pig and be judged for that instead.  So let me tell you all about what I didn’t get to eat that fine sunny day at Wally’s.

First let’s start with the burgers and the one that caught my eye: the Waltimate.  The Waltimate is a not so tiny ¾ pound beef patty with bacon, Swiss and American cheese, grilled ham and grilled onions, tomato and topped off with catsup, mustard, mayo, pickles, onions, lettuce AND last but not least, garnished with fresh fried onion rings.  Seriously?  I know -- me too.  I can’t wait to wrap my mouth around that one.

For those who do not wish to pillage and plunder into the battleground of meat, one can choose the simple charburger for a mere $7 less than the Waltimate.  Of course then there are the other seven options, each one different in there own special way.

Wally’s, as it states on the menu, appears to be famous around town for its “famous fish.”  Their fish plates are handmade and on Mondays, it’s all you can eat for the very nice price of only $11.99.  This makes it on my list as well and it’s awesome that it is all you can eat because I probably will have to float home down one of the many waterways nearby.

Other fresh fare offered are sandwiches, chicken, hot dogs and sides of fries, homemade chili and fried mozzarella sticks, just to name a few items.  Then there are the homemade milkshakes, floats, whizzers (a tasty treat like the DQ Blizzard), sundaes and cones.  As this is a very family friendly spot, there are junior burgers and kid combos for cheap…and I mean cheap.

The one thing I  love about Wally’s is the fact that one can phone in orders for take out, drive up to an old fashioned-style drive-thru spot and have an inside diner option where retro stylings are in tip top shape, bright and fun.   Then there are the several parks in the area where food can be taken for a sunny sit down picnic.  Who knew there could be so many options available at a drive-in?

Bottom line, I cannot wait to try this place.  It seems to be quite busy, the staff is friendly and the food smells out of this world.  I am super disappointed because I ate at another spot that day (not to be named because I’m cool like that).  My only hope is that Wally’s will be prepared for the Dining Diva on her comeback tour.  Until then, happy eats!
