Businesses Flock to Enumclaw

They hope to get off to a fast start during busy summer season.

A few weeks ago if you walked downtown Enumclaw streets it felt a little deserted with all of the empty stores.

But no more.

Since then six new stores have opened, just in time for the busy summer season. They all hope to establish a clientele during this time that will sustain them throughout the year.

Sounds like a good business plan.

The new stores include: Hil’s, Rendezvous Wine and Brew, Collectibles on Cole, The Platinum Hangar, Rainier View Construction and Roofing, and Housewife Hotdogs. We plan to feature each of the new businesses periodically over the next few weeks.

The Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce obviously is glad to see all the new stores coming to town.

“It’s exciting to see the growth with the new businesses popping up and making a go of it. It’s great for the town,” said Tracey McCallum, executive director of the chamber.

She said all of the new businesses have local owners who see something in Enumclaw that they want to be a part of. Some, such as Collectibles and Rendezvous, have invested quite a bit in remodeling their establishments.

McCallum said it’s a good time to start a business here, since it’s tourist season. She said 10,000 people are expected in late July for the street fair alone. She added that the economy seems to be improving, the weather’s getting better and there are activities galore planned this summer in town.

"Quite a few businesses closed their doors that had been here a long time,” she said. “But maybe the community needed a jolt. I hope good luck has come our way.”
