Shine Salon & Spa's Former Staff to Continue Work at Same Site

Contrary to earlier reports that several staff members formerly of Shine Salone & Spa, which closed on Dec. 10, were moving to the Hair Gallery, they have all opted to continue working at the same facility.

Though it was reported last month that several members of Shine Salon & Spa, which closed Dec. 10, would continue working at in Enumclaw, a last-minute offer from building owner and City Attorney Mike Reynolds made it possible for the employees to continue working from the same building.

Stylist Krystal Atchley contacted Patch in mid-December to let us know of the development.

"Basically the day before -- or the weekend before -- we were going to move, the owner gave us a great deal on rent for the building, and we all decided to stay here," she said.

Atchley, along with stylist Susan Mihlbauer, esthetician Sarah Brock and nail technician Cathy Vorpahl have now partnered in the management of the ongoing salon and spa, she said.

The arrangement means the women will continue to work at the building in its current set-up through the end of the year. In January, Atchley said, the ground floor will be remodeled for a retail business and the spa will move upstairs.

Patch was unable to reach Reynolds for more information on what the retail business will be.

Customers who previously purchased or were given gift certificates for Shine can still redeem them there, Atchley said.

The exception would be those seeking massage services. The women currently do not have a massage therapist working at the facility; however, they have been referring customers to , which will honor existing gift cards purchased for Shine.

Meanwhile, if there is a massage therapist interested in working with the group, they would like to hear from them, Brock said.

The transition to the new management would have been seamless from the customer's perspective -- the women didn't close the building at all, Atchley said.

However, salon management is a new experience for them, and they are looking to extend their outreach into the community by donating services.

"It's been a learning process," Brock said. "We didn't really realize everything that Tim [Munnell] did."
