Update: Contest Closed, Local Salon Teams up with Patch for Free Makeover Contest

Ask major cosmetics companies and they'll tell you that even while women look to cut back on their personal care expenditures, they'll still want their lipstick (see this ABC News story from December).

That may be the case, but here in Enumclaw, the reluctance to spend on products and services deemed non-essential has been evident for the stylists who work at what was .

And rather than just sitting back and watching the women walk out the salon door and likely not return, stylist Krystal Atchley and esthetician Sarah Brock have decided they would bring the salon services back out to the community through a Patch-sponsored Makeover Contest that we're launching today!

Each month throughout 2012, we'll choose from a pool of nominations submitted by readers such as yourself, one person who will receive a complete makover package that includes hair, makeup, waxing and nail services valued at about $350.

Atchley, Brock and nail technician Cathy Vorpahl will be providing the services, said Atchley. "People have lost their jobs through the economy and can't afford to get things done the way they did before," she said. "A lot of people are struggling and we wanted to get out into the community and help a little more. We're just excited to get out into the community."

Entering the contest is easy. In 500 words or less, nominate yourself or someone else (must be 18 years of age or older) who you think deserves a free makeover from Sleek Hair Design and Skin Deep and tell us why. Send your nomination to Enumclaw Patch Local Editor April Chan at april.chan@patch.com by the 10th of each month and the winning entry qualifies for the makeover that month.
