Rock Creek Archery Pro Shop and Shooting Range Opens in Enumclaw

The family-run archery pro shop and indoor shooting range also offers leagues, practice, lessons, and Friday Night Fun Shoots for shooters of all ages and skill levels.

Did you know that the only indoor archery shooting facility in King County just opened in Enumclaw this past weekend?

It was a quiet opening, admits Denton Brunk and wife Darcy, the owners of Rock Creek Archery, but there's much more to come for area archery enthusiasts and novices alike, because Rock Creek is so much more than a simple shooting range.

This is Enumclaw's archery pro shop, said Brunk, complete with archery equipment for sale, full service repairs as well as a place to take lessons.

The shop carries primarily Bowtech bows and according to Rock Creek's newly minted Facebook page (click here to view), it also carries accessories by Tru-Ball and Tru-Fire and eco-friendly products by Big Green Targets.

Brunk's vision -- on top of archery lessons -- in indoor leagues, Friday night shooting activites as well as ways to engage local youth, particularly scouts.

Not Misfortune but Opportunity

That vision was a long time coming for Brunk. Though he got his hands on his first bow at age 8 as a Christmas present and nurtured his passion for archery from that point on, he had been working in job site construction until recently when he was laid off. To add insult to injury -- or the other way around -- Brunk then broke an ankle.

The double whammy sidelined Brunk long enough to investigate his unemployment options, which included workplace retraining in business and entrepreneurship, and he decided it was now or never to meld his passion for archery into his new endeavor to start his own small business.

Having his pro shop is "my life's dream," Brunk said. It was important for him to run a business driven by his love of archery. "People do better in business when it's something they're passionate about."

So it was misfortune turned to opportunity? Yes, replied Darcy, but only for a bit at the beginning. No, her husband disagrees. This was opportunity, and he jumped at it.

Rock Creek Archery is located at 930 Battersby Avenue, Suite 105 (next to Combat Sports & Fitness). It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Use of the shooting range costs $10 for the day. For more information, call 206-391-0314.
