St. Elizabeth Hospital Recognized as Leader in Electronic Medical Records

St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw is the only Franciscan Health System and Catholic Health Initiatives hospital to receive this certification.

St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw earned Stage 7 certification for its electronic medical record and use of clinical information technology to support effective, high quality patient-care services, according to its press release on Thursday.

The certification comes from Chicago-based Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), which evaluates hospitals on their deployment of information technology to improve quality, safety, access and cost-effectiveness of care. A Stage 7 facility means that they are truly paperless and that clinical information can be readily shared via electronic transactions. It also allows hospitals to support the true sharing and use of health and wellness information by consumers and providers alike.

Only 1.9 percent of the 5, 441 hospitals nationwide certified by HIMSS receive the Stage 7 designation. St. Elizabeth is the only Franciscan Health System and Catholic Health Initiatives hospital to receive this certification.

It also stands alone as the only facility in South King County to earn Stage 7 status and one of only two hospitals in Washington State to achieve this honor. The hospital will be recognized at the 2014 HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition this coming February in Florida.

The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment.  The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers and a current or former chief medical information officer to ensure an unbiased evaluation of Stage 7 environments.
