Grand Park, Mt. Rainier

A night time hike through Grand Park on Mt. Rainier

Grand Park

Enraptured, bathed in gilded silver, shining darkness, lay the meadow

floated on enchantment, hovered, flickered in and out of ken

moon shadows from tree islands lying black almost opaque, 'cross

bushes, grasses, flowers, trail, as silence gave its calm amen

Dark shadows yet allow pellucid moonlight in their realm

lone flowers, grasses glow, while adding blackness secrets crouched

The meadow drifted poised, aware, alert, to beauty's plea

hidden inside curving forest unseen coyotes sing devotion

Twelve miles put behind him, ready for his tent and sleep

a Caller waits, entranced by vista's moment magic out of time,

present only for itself and now, scorning profane Caller,

the magic flickered once, paused, twice, then escaped

( After a night time hike through Grand Park described to me years ago by a friend also working at Mr. Rainier National Park )

pellucid – clear or limpid

Grand Park is reached only by trail North West of Sunrise on Mt. Rainier, or cross country

( I've been there many times, via trail from Sunrise and cross country from the Northern side of Mt. Rainier National Park – though never at night like my friend)

Hi, Susan and Lou. We do know that our events calendar has issues at the moment with incorrect timesRead More displaying, and our engineering team is at work to correct this. My best suggestion at the moment is to post a comment on an event with the correct time, if you aren't able to go in and edit an event that you previously posted. Our ownership has not changed -- we have been and continue to be a part of the AOL family. Our intent with the new design is to highlight the great content that our users create and share with the community. We know there have been some bumps with our launch and are working diligently to fix them. We hope you'll be patient with us and continue to share on Patch.
