The silence from the left is deafening.

President Obama signs a 5 year extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillence Act (also know as FISA). Where is the outrage from the left?

This past week marked the extension of FISA, also known as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillence Act.  The Senate passed a 5 year extension of the law and President Obama gave the final approval.  Now, as a matter of full disclosure, I support this law and have supported it from the first time I heard about it.

The most controversial part of this law is the authority it gives the federal government to monitor phone calls coming into this country from foreign countries. I don't have a problem with it. Afterall, everyone entering this country from another country is subject to a warrantless search so phone calls shouldn't be different.

What is stunning, is the silence from the left.  I recall when George W Bush was President, the left made political hay about this program even though it was a program that had already existed for a long time.  Heck, you had Code Pink and other left wing nut jobs protesting and trying to make an argument that Achmed the Terrorist had a right to privacy when he was making phone calls to terorrist cells within the United States.  However, to the left, I guess it is just fine when Democrats continue the same program. I guess Bush and Cheney had it right when they approved this program.  Seems funny that Obama is continuing the same programs that Bush and Cheney did. I guess they were smart. Thank goodness Obama sees the value in this law in protecting this country. Unfortunately, his followers are willing to pressure a Republican President into scrapping this law in order to make politcal hay.

Just another example of why I believe that the left in this country are some of the biggest hypocrites around.

You all have a Happy New Year!

almost everything which is controversial is now going under the table. It's doubtful a lot of people even knew that this was happening...and reported in the news after the fact. Same thing is going on with the TTP with secret meetings...which for some reasons is being supported by Murray, but it has some very strange additional features which would take our 'sovereignty' away (i.e., our country's right to decide.)...and control of our own U.S.-developed Internet.

Hey dexterjibberish- This is just the remnants of the "patriot act". One of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on the american public. Maybe they'll kick your door in and tap your phones some day. See how you like it then.

Hey Klondicko, I am fully aware that this was part of the Patriot Act. However, this policy of monitoring incoming phone calls fromn overseas has occurred long before the Patriot Act and it was approved by President after President. As far as getting my front door kicked in by the police, who says I haven't? But you are obviously a low information citizen. They are monitoring phone callls that are coming into this country, they are not kicking in the front doors of citizens and planting bugs in telephones. So, get your facts straight before you try to engage me in a discussion, I hate ignorance.

Well, Paul, giving up a good chunk of our sovereignty to a world body (United Nations) is on Obama's wish list. It is his world view and unfortunately some low information voters and Democrats choose not to see that and put him in office anyway.
