Rock the Green 2013

Rock the Green had a change of venue this summer from Kanasket-Palmer State Park to the Green River CC campus, but Enumclaw still played a role.  The Courier-Herald was one of the sponsors of this annual event, and Dennis Box was on hand to report and take pictures.  And Enumclaw's Spring to the Tap (an organization begun by Austin Schuver as an 8th-grade class project--see other Patch postings) offered taste tests comparing tap and bottled water, the results affirming great-tasting local tap water in our area and available to most of us.  Smokey the Bear had a drink, too, but didn't venture an opinion--he was there promoting fire safety.   Public agencies and non-profit organizations shared themes of protecting and preserving outdoor environments, keeping them healthy, and making good use of recreational opportunities.  Other booths featured green energy from PSE, local produce and CSA's, and political issues.   If you missed Rock the Green, plan to go next year.  Meantime you might like to get involved with one of the non-profit organizations working for a healthy environment--all need volunteers.

Two other related festivals are coming up:  The Duwamish River Festival this Saturday, August 17, and Shadow Lake Nature Preserve's Frog Frolic on September 14.

Our very local Spring to the Tap, BTW, recently incorporated as a non-profit organization.  Austin has given presentations in Enumclaw this month at a community meeting and at Rotary, making a case for our community to reduce its dependency on bottled water and switch to the tap.   If you or your group would like more information, contact him at bottlefreedevotee@gmail.com.
