$1.1 Million Bridge Construction to Close Road for 3 Months

Detour also will have delays because of repaving.

Work on a new $1.1 million bridge near Enumclaw will close the street for three months, a King County news release says.

Work begins Monday, July 11, on the Newaukum Creek Bridge. The 16-foot concrete bridge is on Southeast 416th Street, about two-tenths of a mile west of 278th Way Southeast.

The bridge was built in 1926 and widened in 1969. It is supported by shallow concrete footings that have been partially undermined by flooding.

King County Road Services Division will demolish the bridge and       build a new one, supported by steel piling. Work will include: demolition; pile driving; construction of abutment walls, retaining walls, approach slabs, the bridge superstructure, guardrails, and metal bridge rails; planting of vegetation; and relocation of utilities.

Signs will direct motorists along a detour. Some of the roads in the  route are being repaved, so drivers should expect delays.
