Hero who Saved Enumclaw Teen Honored by Sheriff's Office, Red Cross

Capt. Bryan Howard was honored last year by the King County Sheriff's Office for an act of heroism that occurred on Nov. 6, 2010. He was most recently featured on Evening Magazine.

Patch first reported that King County Sheriff's Capt. Bryan Howard was recognized a year ago for helping to rescue a teen who had been pinned under a tractor in a ditch filled with water, diesel fuel and animal waste in November 2010 following a collision with another vehicle. ()

Now we get to put some faces to the story. Howard was featured in a recent segment of Evening Magazine for this act of heroism (click here to view), which also includes testimony from the Enumclaw teen he saved, Kelyn Wallin.

According to the Red Cross, Wallin borrowed a neighbor's tractor that morning to haul manure for his family's dairy farm. A pickup truck had hit the back of his tractor and the impact propelled him and the tractor over the guardrail and into the ditch.

Howard saw the tractor as he passed the accident site and made it way to Wallin, holding his head above the polluted waters while they waited for help to arrive.

In the Evening Magazine video, Wallin said of his hero: "He's like an angel to me."

The same presentation is featured on the YouTube channel of the Seattle Red Cross (click here to view), following a breakfast to honor several heroes in late March of this year. Read more about all the heroes honored by the King County/Kitsap County Red Cross on their website.
