Sports Roundups: Great Starts for EHS Equestrian, Water Polo

Equestrian took first place last weekend at the team's first meet while the girls waterpolo team beat Auburn Thursday.

Spring sports are quickly getting underway and it appears there's no waiting for the weather to clear up (or warm up) first. Nonetheless, we here at Patch are grateful to the supportive parents and coaches of various sports who are chipping in to help us cover the amazing young athletes in our community.

Thanks to parent Carina Davis and coach Kamie Storer for letting us know that the Enumclaw High School equestrian team (WAHSET) district 6 competed in its first meet last weekend in Spanaway and placed first among eight total teams with 1,295 points.

Meets typically feature 22 events, said Storer and Saturday's highlights include the fact that Enumclaw's 12-man and 4-man drill teams placed first under drill coach Dan McCallister, beating two-time state champions Tumwater High School.

In the cow sorting event, team member Taylor Davis sustained a sprained ankle and knee when her horse fell over a steer that had tripped in front of them and came down on top of her. Like a champ, Taylor dusted herself off and got back on her horse, Homer, to ride her second run with teammate Cassidy Stobart, said proud mom Carina.

The team's next competition is the weekend of April 8 through April 10, also at the Tacoma Unit in Spanaway, Storer said.
