Nachtsheim Family Benefit

In June Melissa Nachtsheim and her husband Martin gave birth to a premature baby, Lincoln. He was 1lb 15 oz and 10 weeks early. He will have lasting effects from being a premie though he made it home close to his birth date (September) and is thriving at home with his family.

Unfortunately before Thanksgiving, Melissa became very ill. Her baby, who was in the hospital for 54 days had been home just over a month.

In early Janurary after months of hospital visits, she was diagnosed with a very rare form of a blood cancer/leukemia, JAK2. Her doctors believe this has also caused a clotting disorder and a very rare liver disease, Budd Chiari. There is treatment for her type of cancer but no cure. They know very little about this cancer as it is very rare. Only 1 in a million has this and it was only discovered about 10 years ago. She has been in and out of the hospital for months and now has many appointments for her treatment and testing each week.
