October Moon

Full, fall moon, you dazzle the earth with brilliance, so bright
Alas, summer's gone; you push the warm days away too fast.
The giant pale yellow, piercing orb nearly white
Rises over the stately Cascade Range, its glow is cast.

Still the western sky yet holds onto brilliant color--
The horizon is a slice of vibrant ripe persimmon.
It fades quickly, overpowered by the autumnal lunar
Moon of harvest, you boldly dominate, never seeking permission.

Fog threatens to engulf the low-lying fields
Even before darkness descends, daylight is cowering.
Luminescence presses onward, black night reveals
Shadows and silhouettes, distinct color the late hour is swallowing.
