Campaign Tampering

Over 50 campaign signs located throughout KCFD 28 were stolen or defaced between October 18 & 21.  Another 20 signs were stolen the night of October 24th.  These signs supported Elbert Reed for Fire Commissioner and Vote Yes for Proposition 1, and  were located on private property with the owner’s permission or at their request.  Signs supporting Angela Stubblefield for Fire Commissioner or Vote No on Proposition 1 located in the immediate vicinity of the stolen signs were not affected. Since all crimes happened during a very short period this appears to be a calculated and coordinated attempt at voter manipulation.

Tampering with or interfering with elections is a criminal offense.   Anyone having information about these crimes is asked to report it to the King County Sheriff’s Dept. (206-296-3311) or the Enumclaw Police Departments Anonymous Tip Line (360-615-5707).

During the preceding weeks four business owners with signs supporting Reed or Yes located on or near their business, were harangued by persons supporting the Stubblefield & No campaigns.  The harassment stopped short of criminal activity.
