Email to the Editor: STEM Expo Thursday a Free, Community Event

Enumclaw Schools Foundation President Johna Thomson reminds local residents the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Expo this Thursday and showcases local achievements as well as career options post-graduation.

I am so excited about the STEM Expo that is coming to Enumclaw High School this Thursday, October 11. I hope everyone will join us for the inaugural event. The STEM Expo will showcase the use of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in Enumclaw School District’s education system and career paths after graduation. This free, community event will take place from 4-7 pm in the EHS Commons and will feature hands-on activities for kindergarteners to 12th graders.

Students will have a chance to see, touch and learn about education and career opportunities that use STEM skills. Here’s an example of the fun, free things that will be happening during the Expo:

  • tour the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) mobile training unit;
  • use robotics kits to build a terrestrial rover from the Museum of Flight;
  • find out about STEM learning opportunities at ESH such as the Robotics Club and Glass Works class;
  • meet local and regional business representative who use STEM skills in their jobs, many related to the aerospace field.

The goal of this event is to excite kids in grades K-12 to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and build awareness of STEM related careers.
