Peanut butter allergies......ban it from school?

Is it fair to require a school to cease from using peanut products in their lunches and banning children from bring them to school? Or should it be allowed as long as each student with peanut allergies has quick access to an EpiPen for those severe reactions.  Should kids be able to administer themselves, keeping it safely stored in a backpack?  Lots of confusion here.
