Enumclaw Firefighters Hit Streets for Fill-the-Boot Campaign Friday

The firefighters, belonging to Local 3931, aim to raise $10,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) on Friday, August 10 at two intersections in Enumclaw.

Enumclaw firefighters will be out in the streets on Friday, August 10, with a goal of raising $10,000, as they kick off their annual Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), said a press release Tuesday.

The firefighters will be at the intersection of Stevenson Avenue and Cole Street as well as Griffin Avenue and Garrett Street from 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., filling their boots with donations from motorists. They will be joined by Danielle Harada and Amber Morris, who are local MDA clients.

Last year, the Enumclaw Fire and Emergency Services Department raised more than  $9,000 for MDA, adding to the International Association of Fire Fighters’ (IAFF) national total of more than $28 million. Firefighters have been volunteering their time and, don’t forget, boots—to help children and adults with 43 muscle-deteriorating diseases since 1954.

Proceeds raised during the street-side campaign will support life-saving research and services to families in King County. These services include MDA Summer Camp in Lake Stevens, genetic counseling, clinics, and local support groups.

MDA is the non-profit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. The majority of contributions to MDA come from individual donors. MDA maintains clinics for area adults and children affected by neuromuscular diseases at Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center.
