Enumclaw will have a community-wide event to celebrate National Night Tuesday starting at 5:30 p.m. in the downtown parking lots
adjacent to the Enumclaw Senior/Community Center.
National Night Out is the annual event that heightens crime prevention awareness.
Jobyna Nickum, Enumclaw Senior Activity Center manager, says in a news release that neighborhoods in Enumclaw are encouraged to host Block Parties and barbecues to show solidarity against crime.
But Linking Enumclaw with Civility, Compassion and Kindness and the Simply Soup Crew are joining to promote Enumclaw’s first organized involvement with National Night Out.
The Kettle Restaurant will provide homemade chicken and vegetable soup. There also will be fresh-baked bread from Brennan Bakery and the Ladies of the Moose has baked cookies. Enumclaw Youth & Family Services will barbecue hot dogs.
Mayor Liz Reynolds will serve soup, and Boy Scouts also will help out. Enumclaw Police will be there, and guitarist Mark Bloom will entertain.
Last year's National Night Out involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and
local officials from more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states and around the globe. In all, more than 37 million people participated.
National Night Out is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime
programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community part-nerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, the news release says.
