Hicks and Raburn Memorial Dedication in Maple Valley Today

The new memorial site was commissioned by the City of Maple Valley in partnership with the King County Sheriff’s Office at Lake Wilderness Park.

The King County Sheriff’s Office and City of Maple Valley are inviting the public and media to attend a dedication ceremony of the new “Hicks and Raburn Memorial” site.

The new memorial site was commissioned by the City of Maple Valley in partnership with the King County Sheriff’s Office at Lake Wilderness Park. This is to provide a local memorial for fallen deputies who served in Southeast King County.

There was previously a memorial located at the Hicks/Raburn Precinct in Southeast King County; however, due to closure of the precinct a new memorial has been commissioned.

Sergeant Samuel Hicks was shot and killed on June 24, 1982 while conducting a murder investigation.

Detective Raburn was stabbed and killed on March 27, 1984 while responding to a call at a home.

Please join us at the dedication ceremony for the memorial of our two fallen heroes:

Sam (our father) was and is the yard stick by which I measure my life. He was an amazing man and father to William, myself and all our brothers. His wit, humanity and bravery remain in our hearts and minds. "Larger than life" is what many said to describe him yet he was humble and positively impacted so many lives. Miss you dad.

I was there for my sister, LInda Raburn, Mike's wife. So much time has gone by and so much has changed. I was honored to see that even after so many years, people don't forget what some give to keep us safe. I am proud to have known you MIke.
