Information from spokesperson Tim Perciful:

An engine from Black Diamond Station 98 may be out of commission for a while after it slid into a ditch onto its side due to icy conditions.

The engine was on Kent Kangley Road when it hit an icy spot and drifted toward the shoulder where it hit gravel and/or a rock and spun 180 degrees before sliding into the ditch.

The driver of the engine sustained minor injuries but the rest of the firefighters were unhurt. All the firefighters were wearing seatbelts when the crash happened.

While surveying the scene, firefighters summoned help from King County Sheriff's Office to close the road due to the slippery conditions - several other vehicles were also sliding.

The road was closed for several hours until the engine could be towed and the road sanded. About 30 cars were stranded until the task was completed.
