Mountain View Fire and Rescue Chief: Station on Muckleshoot Reservation Serves All

King County Fire Protection District No. 44 Chief Greg Smith clarifies the new station at S.E. 400th and 180th Avenue S.E. on the Muckleshoot Reservation is a primary station where services are not restricted to the Reservation.

Concerned about questions received recently regarding Mountain View Fire and Rescue's newest fire station on the Muckleshoot Reservation, Fire Chief Greg Smith issued a clarification today for residents in the district that Station 96 at S.E. 400th and 180th Avenue S.E. is a primary fire station that provides emergency services for fires, emergency medical and rescue for all citizens in the district and not simply those living on the Reservation. Below is Smith's full statement:

It has come to the attention of Fire District 44 that there is a misconception related to our Fire Station located at SE 400th and 180th AVE SE (Fire Station 96) on the Enumclaw Plateau.  This Fire Station replaces the old Fire Station 96 that was located on SE 384th.

The “new” station was placed into service in December of 2011. While the Fire Station is located on the Muckleshoot Reservation, this station provides service to the entire area of Fire District 44 and does not service only the Muckleshoot Reservation, nor does it respond only as a secondary response, it is the first out primary fire station in its assigned service area and is staffed with career firefighters from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. seven days a week, volunteers staff the station in the evenings from 6 P.M. to 6 A.M.

This Fire Station provides emergency services for Fires, Emergency Medical and Rescue, as well as any service calls that we often respond to.  The Fire Station was built and funded by Fire District 44 in a cooperative efferent with the Muckleshoot Tribe.  This current location provides better response times and also provided the District with the required utilities that a modern fire station requires, domestic water, gas and most importantly a public sewer connection.

The misconception of some of the citizens in the area is that this station only provides service to the Reservation and/or provides only a “2nd out” response to areas outside of the Reservation, this is not the case. Citizens of the District built this station and it serves all of the citizens in the area.
