The driver was able to escape but her passenger sustained moderate injuries after a 4x4 sports utility vehicle they were in rolled into a ditch near the Expo Center Tuesday afternoon, a release from the Enumclaw Fire Department said Thursday.

The vehicle was headed northbound on 284th Avenue S.E. at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when it veered off the road just south of the fairgrounds into a ditch and then rolled end over end for several more feet.

Eight rescue personnel worked for 20 minutes to free the passenger who became trapped after the vehicle came to rest, due to the complexity of the extrication and their injuries.
