Prosecutor to Decide Soon on Charges Against Bonney Lake Man

Teen was driving when he crashed into a telephone pole, killing a 17-year-old Puyallup boy.

Pierce County Deputy Prosecutor Tim Jones said Wednesday that he should soon be able to decide if a 19-year-old Bonney Lake man will be charged in a case involving a fatal accident in Buckley.

Jones said he received reports from Buckley police in late August.

“Although a number of other cases also came in during the last month, I should be able to review the case and have a charging decision made within the next 30 days,” he says in an email.

Buckley Police Chief Jim Arsanto has said that felony hit-and-run and vehicular homicide charges are possible. Instead of calling 9-1-1, the driver reportedly called a friend to take him to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw after the crash. The driver was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was released the next afternoon.

Traevon Norton, 17, of Puyallup died in the accident when a car he was a passenger in crashed into a telephone pole. The driver was speeding and failed to make a turn, Arsanto has said. The accident occurred Aug. 3 near where 112th meets State Route 410.

Tributes sprang up all over the internet for Norton, who was also known as T.N.C. in the local  rap scene.

The driver’s name has not been released because of the ongoing investigation.

Norton’s funeral was a Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle. An online site helped raise money for funeral costs.

Here are some of the things friends had to say online about Norton.

“Trae's mom and I are very close friends. We will never forget him and will miss him dearly. His funeral was packed with people who loved him,” Keysha Bass said.

“Cherie, I am so sorry for you loss; my condolences to you and your family,” Diem Park said.

“I cannot imagine what you are going through right now. I just pray that you will find the strength to trust God to see you through it, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day,” Kellie Gardner said.
