City Recognized for Wellness Efforts for Second Year, Earns Healthcare Savings

The city of Enumclaw for 2012 again wins the WellCity Award from the Association of Washington Cities and included in the recognition is a 2 percent premium discount on medical coverage premiums.

For the second straight year, the city of Enumclaw has been recognized by the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Employee Benefit Trust with a WellCity Award for its efforts to promote employee health.

Kristen Damazio, the marketing and event manager at the Enumclaw Expo Center who also heads this year's wellness committee for the city of Enumclaw reported to the City Council Monday that as a benefit of the award, the city receives a 2 percent discount on medical coverage premiums for employees in the year 2013.

Last year (), that represented about $32,400 in taxpayer savings and Damazio said she expects savings for 2013 to be about the same or higher.

Cities were judged on a 197-point scale where they needed to have a minimum of 91 points to qualify for the award. The city of Enumclaw's wellness committee oversees a wellness program here that promotes health and wellness through monthly events, on-site health checks and even a Wii tournament last year.

Enumclaw earned a total of 167 points this year, Damazio said.
