Both Rep. Cathy Dahlquist and Rep. Christopher Hurst came away Tuesday evening with solid leads in their respective 31st District races as the first primary elections numbers are being reported.
For Position No. 1, Dahlquist received 8,446 votes (61.54 percent) over challenger Brian L. Gunn who received 5,278 votes (38.46 percent).
"I'm obviously very excited and happy that people of the 31st District have liked the work I've done over the last few years," Dahlquist said Tuesday night after the results came in. "I've worked really hard for them on the reforms, and the relief pieces we needed in government. I'm excited it's reflecting in the votes."
Thought behind, Gunn was happy about the results. "Considering that I'm looking at having spent about a tiny fraction of what Dahlquist has spent, and I entered the race fairly late and am a new name, I think I have over 38 percent of the vote for the primary," he said. "I think that's a darn good showing. ... I haven't had a lot of time to go out knocking on doors to introduce myself. There's plenty of time between now and November to do more, and I think I can make up the difference."
Hurst had 7,999 votes (59.34 percent) over challenger Lisa Connors with 5,480 (40.66 percent) in the Position No. 2 race. Neither candidate could be reached for comment Tuesday night.
