Enumclaw studies traffic improvement plan

A number of local city events will be discussed at tonight's city council meeting.

The Enumclaw City Council plans to set a public hearing tonight regarding transportation improvements.

The meeting will take place starting at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The Six-Year Transportation Improvement Plan would run from 2012 to 2017. The public hearing actually already has been set for July 11 at City Hall.

The council will announce three important community events coming up in early July: The Chamber of Commerce Independence Day Parade July 4 at noon (City Hall will be closed that day); the American Cancer Society Relay for Life July 9 starting at noon and ending July 10 at 9 a.m. at JJ Smith Elementary School; and the King County Fair July 7-10 at the fairgrounds.

The council also will announce special events, including a block party July 4 on Almadon Street; a Relay for Life “Paint the town Purple” activity on city poles on various streets July 5-10; and a 5-kilometer run for Downs Syndrome Aug. 13 from Summit Church to Grocery Outlet.

Public Works Director Chris Searcy will talk about recycling collection event results, and there will be various other city department and committee reports.
