Final Election Results Certified by King County, School Board Position Headed for Recount

The Enumclaw City Council welcomes newcomers Darrel Dickson and Chance LaFleur, while other council and school district incumbents went unchallenged. Position No. 4 in the school district, however, is headed for a hand recount.

The elections results are officially in, but not so for Enumclaw School Board Position No. 4 candidates and who are headed for an automatic recount since at final tally Tuesday, McGann leads Peterson by a slim 9 votes.

The King County Canvassing Board certified results from the Nov. 8 election early Tuesday morning, confirming early returns that in the only other contested local race, Darrel Dickson defeated incumbent Rich Elfers for Position No. 2 on the Enumclaw City Council.

Overall, election officials tallied 52 percent of all ballots mailed out to Enumclaw voters in the all-mail election.

In the Enumclaw School Board races, incumbents , and all ran unopposed. The yet-to-be-decided race here is that between McGann and Peterson for the No. 4 position that is currently occupied by Tim Nickson.

Mandatory machine recounts are triggered if the difference between the two candidates is fewer than 2,000 votes and is less than half a percent, said King County Elections spokeswoman Kim van Ekstrom earlier this month.

A mandatory hand recount is triggered when the difference between the two candidates is fewer than 150 votes and is less than a quarter of a percent, she said.

As of Tuesday, McGann has 3,151 votes (49.88 percent) over Peterson's 3,142 votes (49.94 percent) -- they're headed for a mandatory hand recount, which is expected to take place at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 12 at King County Elections Headquarters.

The Canvassing Board is expecting to have certified results of the recounts by 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 16.
