Governor Signs Marriage Equality Bill

Washington state will become the seventh state in the union to legalize same-sex marriage on June 7, unless opponents succeed in getting a referendum on the November ballot.

Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire, surrounded by applauding gay couples and with the media looking on, on Monday signed into law historic legislation that makes Washington the seventh state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage.

"This is a very proud moment," Gregoire said, according to to The Seattle Times.

The change takes effect in 90 days, on June 7. In the meantime, opponents of gay marriage are vowing to fight the law with a referendum that would repeal it. If they can gather 120,577 signatures before June 6, it would delay the law until the November election.

The Washington Secretary of State's office also has a FAQ page for the new law; click here to access it.

Dexter, I will "be on board" when any law abiding citizen (the counts out NAMBLA and polyigmists), who pays taxes, has been treated like a 2nd class citizen. I brought up race because we as Americans have a rich history of using religion to lump good people into 2nd class status. Your arguement didnt work well for Rick Santorum, he lost his seat in the senate for saying exactly what you did. He lost credibility with his constituants and gained rights to be called a Bigot, yeah.....with a capitol B. Google his name.....after 5 years, its still not nice. Homosexuality is NOT a choice, read a bit on the subject, dont settle for what you "hear", do a bit of research, i am sure you will find what i have. They deserve equal treatment under ALL laws.

please... re assess what you think you want. If you don't agree with same sex marriage then don't marry the same sex. How would you feel if somebody starting making YOUR life decisions? Please.
