Sen. Roach to Host Town Halls Oct. 5 in Greenwater, Enumclaw

The Greenwater meeting will start at 10 a.m. in the community center at 59707 State Route 410 East. The Enumclaw meeting will start at 1 p.m. at the public library, 1700 First Street.

Sen. Pam Roach is inviting Greenwater and Enumclaw residents to join her for town-hall meetings Saturday, Oct. 5.

The Greenwater meeting will start at 10 a.m. in the community center at 59707 State Route 410 East. The Enumclaw meeting will start at 1 p.m. at the public library, 1700 First Street.

The meetings offer ideal opportunities to hear from the people she serves, said Roach, chair of the Senate Governmental Operations Committee.

“Now is the time to make sure we’re ready for next session,” Roach said. “Some of the best legislation I’ve sponsored has come from residents of our community. A recent example is when a citizen came to me because public lands were being closed to hikers, hunters, naturalists and others due to a lack of enforcement officers at the Department of Natural Resources; I responded by getting funding for two new enforcement officers.  This will help keep our public lands open.

“Another example is the funding for an additional armory in Buckley. That is a direct result of working with the Military Department," explained Roach, who is on the executive board of the Joint Select Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs.

“It is important to hear from citizens about the needs of our community. We pay taxes and some of that money should come back to help our neighborhoods and our economy,” said Roach.

“This year the Legislature increased funding for our public schools and prevented college-tuition increases for the first time since 1986. All of that came about because our Senate majority heard from the people and we went to Olympia ready to work for them,” Roach said.

Roach, a rural Auburn resident who represents the 31st Legislative District, hosted a well-attended meeting Wednesday evening to talk about recreational fishing in Lake Tapps; she is working to schedule town halls in other 31st Legislative District communities later in October.
